10. 7-Zip

7-Zip is one of the best free WinZip and WinRar alternatives. It’s considered to be one of the most popular archive tools available. 7-Zip offers speed archiving and unzipping, it can compress files to smaller sizes, and it’s incredibly easy to use.

7-Zip also supports a variety of different archive types. More importantly, 7-Zip has it’s own .7z file type that is considered to be one of the top ways to compress files into the smallest archive possible. 7-Zip runs smoothly on Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. If you’re interested in downloading 7-Zip for free, you can visit the download link here.

9. jZip

If you’re looking for quick, portable and free WinZip and WinRar alternatives, jZip may be the tool for you. With jZip, you’re able to archive or unzip files quickly. jZip’s customization options are very limited when compared to other options available as WinZip and WinRar alternatives, but there are benefits to this as well.

For example, the jZip file size is small, so you could easily carry it around on a USB stick if necessary. The jZip program also works incredibly smoothly. It’s perhaps one of the most straightforward unzipping tools currently available too. jZip can also support all of the major file formats, and because it’s based on the same technology used in 7Zip, you can also use it with .7z files.

jZip is free to install but includes adware that you can optionally opt out of while installing the program. Download jZip for Windows here.

4. ExtractNow

ExtractNow is the absolute best WinZip and WinRar alternative for somebody looking for a tool that can extract tools quickly. If you don’t need to archive your files but simply need a tool that can unzip downloaded content, ExtractNow will work for you.

Because ExtractNow only includes the unzip feature, the file size and interface are incredibly simple. There’s no way you’ll get lost within the ExtractNow interface. Alternatively, with ExtractNow installed, you can simply right-click any archive file to unzip it without opening the ExtractNow program.

I’ve found ExtractNow to be one of the fastest options for unzipping archive files. You candownload ExtractNow here.

3. Universal Extractor

Universal Extractor is another excellent tool for those looking for something to unzip archive files. Unlike other WinZip and WinRar alternatives in this list, the Universal Extractor cannot zip files – it can only unzip them.

Thought it offers a similar experience like ExtractNow, we found UniversalExtractor to be even more lightweight than ExtractNow – you won’t even notice a standalone system app for it once it’s downloaded. Instead, you simply need to right-click any archive file to unzip it.

As the name suggests, Universal Extractor is designed to extract any archive file, so if you’ve found yourself with an archive file that your default archive tool can’t unzip, then this makes for another reason to give UniversalExtractor a spin. It’s comfortable, convenient and doesn’t throw any unnecessary features for the average user out of the Windows. You candownload Universal Extractor for Windows here.

2. ZipItFree

If you’re the kind of person that’s continually unzipping and zipping files, ZipItFree will give you the experience you’re looking for. ZipItFree comes with a small program that you can minimize by double-clicking the top toolbar. When you need to use it again, you can just double-click the toolbar to bring the program into view.

Keeping other zipping tools in the background can be a little clunky – they can get in the way of other programs if kept in view, but switching back and forth between them can slow down operation. ZipItFree can be kept in view at all times, but it’s small enough to stay out of the way of whatever task you may be performing on your PC.

ZipItFree is also packed to the brim with features and unzipping or zipping files through ZipItFree is super fast. We found that it’s great for unzipping a variety of different archive file types as well.

ZipItFree also offers basic encryption and password features for those looking to add a little bit of extra security to their archive files. You candownload ZipItFree here.

  • WebDAV connectivity.

  • Free mobile and desktop apps.

  • Restore files long after deleting them.

What We Don't Like

  • Very limited storage space.

  • Strange file sharing requirements.

  • Updates are hardly ever released for the mobile app.

MyDrive is another online storage service but it offers much less space than the majority of the others in this list. There's no limit to how large uploads can be, but you can only store up to 100 MB on MyDrive, which makes the maximum file size 100 MB as well.

MyDrive is very limited compared to similar websites, such as the fact that file sharing is allowed only if you give out a 'guest' username and password, and you only get one.

However, I do like that you can download multiple files in an archive and restore deleted files up to a month after removing them from your account.

A desktop app is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac computers, and an Android and iOS app for mobile devices. Plus, you can connect to your account through WebDAV.

Best Free Archiver For Windows

Tencent Cloud

What We Like

  • Instant access to 10 GB storage space.

  • Clean and modern interface.

What We Don't Like

  • Non-English website and apps.

  • Signup can be confusing.

Another website that gives out quite a bit of online space is Tencent Cloud at Weiyun.com. However, while there is 10 GB of free storage up for grabs, the website and app are not in English, making it pretty difficult to use them.

With that being said, if you're out of options and need these 10 gigabytes, the upload and download buttons are easy enough to understand since they're just pictures.

You can check how much space you have available from this page.

To get logged in to Tencent Cloud, you can download the WeChat app on your phone (it's in English) and use the Discover > Scan option to scan the QR code on Weiyun.com, which will get you in and let you use the cloud storage features (use the QR code from the right tab).

Tencent Cloud can be downloaded for Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone, and iPad.

Degoo

What We Like

  • More storage than most services.

  • Apps for mobile and desktop.

  • Automatically upload files.

  • Multiple ways to earn more free storage space.

What We Don't Like

  • Works more like a backup service.

  • No external hard drive support.

  • Can't view saved files on the website.

Degoo gives out a huge 100 GB of free storage to anyone who makes an account.

If you have lots of friends who want to use Degoo to store their files, you can even get 500 GB more by referring them to make an account. You get 3 GB for each person that joins through your referral. You can also watch ads to get more free online space (1.2 GB per day).

I've placed Degoo at the very bottom of this list despite its huge 100 GB capacity because it functions a bit more like a backup service rather than a cloud storage program.

You can definitely pick which files are backed up but backups are performed automatically every 24 hours to keep things updated, which makes it work more like a free backup service.

Best Free Archiver For Mac

Because Degoo is a bit different than these other cloud storage services, you should use it like this: pick a folder on your computer that will hold all of your backed up files, or make new one. Put everything into that folder that you want to keep online, and then make sure Degoo is running to back up the files online.

Best Free Archiver 2018

You can use the cloud storage account on your computer through the desktop program, or access your files on the go with the mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
